Hi, I’m Marlyss, the photographer behind Smiley Photography.

I believe photos matter most when they feel like real life. Not stiff poses or forced smiles, but the laughter after the joke, the hug no one noticed, and the quiet look between people who care about each other. Those are the moments I’m always watching for.

Photography began as something personal for me. I’ve always been the one making sure memories were saved, and over time I realized how powerful a photograph can be. Moments pass quickly, but a photo lets you return not just to what things looked like — but to how they felt.

Today I photograph weddings, portraits, and corporate events across North Alabama, Huntsville, Chattanooga, and the Nashville area, capturing both meaningful personal milestones and professional gatherings. Whether it’s a wedding day, a family session, or a company event, my approach stays the same: relaxed, natural, and focused on genuine interaction. I’ll guide you when needed and step back when real moments are happening.

I’ve been a sole proprietor for several years, but my experience started long before that, photographing family, friends, and important life moments. Those years shaped how I work today — patient, observant, and always ready for the in-between moments most people miss.

Outside of photography, I’m a wife and a bonus mom to three amazing kids. Life at home keeps me grounded and reminds me daily why photos matter so much. The little moments we wish we could freeze in time are exactly what I aim to give my clients.
